"Those aren't levied on foreign countries or companies - but instead on the U.S. importers who bring those goods into the U.S. for sale." - and those importers (guys like me) pass them right along to you the purchaser, and YOU are who will pay it, not me. Fun fact: this causes upward inflationary pressure.

Once again, this is an example of how most people don't understand what tariffs do. There is a reason people say tariffs are nothing but taxes - because they usually get shifted directly to the consumer as Scott has repeatedly detailed for us. China doesn't pay for those tariffs.

Seriously. In what world is an extra 20% forced to be paid by an importer not going to be passed along to the consumer?

Every time I hear that convict say this, I can’t believe that literally everyone isn’t laughing at the stupidity.

Yep. And even if you personally "buy American" you pay it. The fixtures in the stores, such as shelves and displays, are mostly made in China. And since most of them are made of metal they got hit hard with both Trump's China tariff and the steel tariff.

Thank you for noting the work of Jon Ossoff. I saw some of his work about prison reform and failed to create a clip but I did catch his exchange with Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas which was elegantly balanced. I'm sure most Georgians do not fully appreciate this man's bonafides or that he is the youngest person ever elected to the US Senate.

Here is the clip I made during the Mayorkas hearing.

I love Jon Ossoff. He is just a quiet workhorse. This Georgian wishes we had more like him.

Ossoff is an interesting study in a Senator. He does not seek the limelight, and he has identified certain issues and decided to pursue them - like this prison story.

I’m in a red rural county in NC and there’s definitely a new energy in my county’s Democratic group. It’s fun to see a little hopefulness, even against the odds.

I'm in Dunn, it is noticeable here too.

Interesting. Keep me updated, please. I have dropped into North Carolina many times over the years on the campaign trail. While the Democrats have been able to win statewide races, they often just seem unable to super-motivate swing voters in NC (that's the best way I can describe it). 2008 would be one exception with Obama.

Ha, we’re in the same county! We live in Cameron.

Thank you for parsing through 45’s speech (on and off message) and digging through the latest NC numbers and offering context for us. It feels like there’s a real attempt by his team to steer Trump back on message.

I don’t watch a lot of live TV anymore. But sitting in a swing state last night watching the network news, I saw the latest Trump and Harris ads back to back at the end of the newscast. Night and day, just like their campaigns. Trump’s was almost cartoony in its attempt to demonize Harris. I’m sure that plays well with the base but shouldn’t these ads be aiming for independent and swing voters?

I think one problem is that the more deranged he gets, he’s worried about losing his radical base… so he gets more outrageous and deranged, so gets more worried.

A delightful spiral. And the swing voters turn away.

I think he’s convinced himself his base is large enough for him to win the election. Or perhaps more terrifyingly, he believes he doesn’t have to win and that fake electors, violent mobs of his supporters and his appointed judges plus the compromised SCOTUS will secure him the presidency.

Two differences this year: the president will immediately call out troops if there are riots, and people have learned that the DoJ WILL prosecute domestic terrorism. Jamie reports about it every day.

As many have said before Jan 6 was a trial run. He is counting on his base to do the same again if he loses. Of course that is Plan B. Plan A started years ago with his willing co-conspirators in Red State GOP legislatures and local election boards (appointed by GOP elected officials) working overtime to create laws and rules that will enable him to steal the election "legally".

Yes, we're seeing that locally here in Georgia. Interestingly, the local election cronies he name-checked in his Atlanta speech recently are now facing public blowback to their machinations.

Every single one of these election deniers ought to be served by a federal marshal, along with a notice that if they don’t do their job, they’ll go to jail… assuming there’s a law that the certification is required.

Take away their chance to pretend they didn’t know it was wrong.

Your paragraph headings are always fun, sometimes educational, like little bonus tidbits for the reader. I had to go to Wikipedia to get the reference to George Lemieux.

Are people counting Moreno out in Ohio? I saw the NRSC canceled an ad buy there, but outside groups still have tens of millions of dollars reserved.

Granted, the implosion of JD Vance is probably very good news for Sherrod Brown. But I don't think he is out of the woods yet.
