I live in a rural Georgia county. My neighbor is a poll worker and said lots of voters are telling her they haven't voted in years. I keep wondering what this means for Georgia. One lady specifically said it was her first election since Dukakis ran (1988)!

That is interesting! No clue what it means, though

For this election, I think high turnout benefits Democrats because people are fed up with the drama.

But wouldn't Jamie's map suggest more to the story given the high turn out in the rural counties of Georgia which are deep red? I'm quite sure Jamie will go to his happy place and analyze the data after the election and break down for us how it broke.

I think it could go either way. Trump supporters who are now energized to vote. Or Harris voters who have not felt like there was any point in voting for a Democrat now believe their vote might matter. I wish the exit polls started early!

It always seems that high turnout benefits Democrats. I hope that holds true for this election. I'm counting on Roevember.

I saw an article a while back, but I can't remember where, that said non -voters actually lean toward Trump. So it's not true anymore than more voting helps Democrats.

I have a genuine question: Jamie, I always read about one party outspending the other as being an indicator of who will win. But it seems to me that we are all SO fed up with political ads—- do they ever become liabilities?

More money is always good - but more money does not always mean victory. I'm sure there must be some study on where the law of diminishing marginal returns comes into play with political advertising. Google and report back.

Flagging that one additional western state (Idaho) will be voting on a top-four primary system next month

I have always preferred open or jungle primaries. I’ve never been a fan of either party. With my father working in local government I’ve grown up around both parties and never saw a lick of difference.

While some things have changed I have less faith in either party. While money has always been a part of elections it is now the only thing. Since neither has embraced any principles they have not been involved in developing quality candidates. Thus, I would like to see jungle primaries and rank-choice voting to get the candidates down to two. I would have the primary in late June (kickoff campaign on 4th of July).

I live in Texas so, of course Trump will carry the state. I’m a Conservative who, because of his constant belief the 2020 election was stolen, I wrote in another name for President. For his participation in 2020 fake electors effort, Senator Ted Cruz lost my vote.

Higher turnout helps our country.

Does early voting bode well for the Democrats or the Republicans? The answer today is yes. The GA map shows high numbers in some traditionally conservative counties while there is lower participation in traditionally progressive counties. However early voting is not over so I truly believe it is too early to make a definitive statement. Also, I believe the question should be asked, Has early voting made the “October Surprise “ obsolete?

It’s always good to read your take on the elections Jamie. You tell it like it is. Actually the turnout in Howard County for Deb Fischer looks like a fairly decent crowd. It’s not a highly populated county. I am hoping her opponent does well. We’ll see.

I just looked up the population. 6,527 as of 2023. Looks like 30-35 people in the photo.

I am way behind in reading these..I just am over it all.

I wish once all is said and done that would mean the end but it won't.

It’s odd that the Dem WinSenate PAC is investing millions in races in NEVADA, WISCONSIN, MICHIGAN, MONTANA, ARIZONA and MARYLAND, but a mere 60 grand in Texas. What does that say about a flip?

Texan here, and I think the odds are still against Allred beating Cruz. But there is a chance now, and so the party is trying to help. A little late, I think. They underestimated how ticked off we'd all still be about him going to Cancun spring the big freeze.

The incompetence of candidate Harris is stunning. She has no executive or business experience. Even as AG, is it true she never personally tried a case? Her “I’ll follow the law” answer to tough questions is the lamest ever and misleading. Why doesn’t she admit to the unpopular laws and policies she will try to change (or does she understand anything about the job?) such as she did as AG working behind the scenes to require California taxpayers pay for sex change operations of prisoners? Did you know that?

The transgender policies of Democrats are deplorable. Democrat politicians support chopping off healthy body parts of children and allowing men in girls bathrooms and competing in women’s sports. Is the average democrat citizen really for those?

Democrat politicians: don’t look at our policies (except the ones that match Trump’s that you might like); Trump is bad. Vote Democrat! We are the party that will keep you safe by allowing you to kill late-term babies for any reason, have open borders, more beautiful cities like San Francisco, strengthening our economy by taxing the hell out of successful people and businesses, and making weapons for endless wars. Republicans are cultist nazis, Trump is Hitler, who thinks neo-nazis and white nationalists are “fine people”, and that you should drink bleach. Oh, and we’ll all going burn up, drown, or freeze in the next 20 years because of climate change if you don’t elect us so we can waste billions on ineffective programs.

Of course, Republicans are no better when it comes to spending. But at least Trump will not surround himself with deep-state, forever-wars people like he ignorantly did last time (look at the former staff members and officials who oppose him and ask why Flynn was really targeted?). Instead, he’ll have highly competent people on his team like Musk, who will find ways to make government operate more efficiently, and RFK, Jr, who will help us have safer foods and drugs.

Hmmmm? No wars, better health, and safer cities. Looks like Trump is the true candidate for making America safe again.

Now watch for all the TDS never-Trumpers pile on with personal insults and default to “yeah, well, Trump is a convict!”. I’m so going to enjoy watching the reaction from these lunatics when this lawfared conviction is overturned.

I think you may to head to Twitter for that kind of engagement if you are waiting for people to "pile on with personal insults". Have a blessed day!

I must have headed them off this time. Usually any pro-Trump comment whatsoever on Jaime’s Substack brings out the knuckleheads. Pleased to see it didn’t happen this time. Blessed day to you, too.

Why do smart people like Elon Musk, Vivek, and Bill Ackerman support Trump? Do you think Trump is Hitler? Now who’s been brainwashed?

Expand full comment

They support him because they want power in his White House if he wins. There are countless Republicans, who are also smart, who think Trump is a fascist who wants to be a dictator. I am not brainwashed; I am rational.

You have a good heart, Melissa, but you are wasting energy competing for the last word with someone unable to allow that to happen.

"Some individuals might naturally have a communication style that involves providing extensive explanations and details. This style can give the impression of needing to have the last word, even if it's not their intention."

No, sadly you’ve been brainwashed by the media. I could try to reason with you but cognitive dissonance allows one to see only what they want to see. I could ask you to define fascism, then ask you to cite examples by Trump supporting the definition. To check your objectivity, I would ask if you source information from someone with whom you might disagree? For a balanced reporting of news I recommend Megyn Kelly? You might remember her from a Trump/Hillary debate and someone who personally dislikes Trump and who Trump has expressed dislike for too. She voted for Biden in 2020.
