What was the overall vibe during Abbott's speech? Saw a brief clip of everyone chanting "send them back" while waving the mass deportation signs and it was bit too on the nose. My immediate thought was it just needed the white sheets but already had the "go back to where you're from" 😬

Either that or the Bund's 1939 rally in Madison Square Garden. Unfortunately.

A thought that keeps coming to me is how much anyone who said no to the No Labels ticket is now wishing they said yes given the events of the last 3 weeks.

That's an interesting thought. It makes sense in the abstract in order to offer a realistic option apart from the two major parties - but when you actually get down to the business of making it a real option, no one from either party wants to be the one to go down that road. That's why it keeps failing. An independent Ross Perot type is probably the closest thing you're ever going to get.

It’s amazing how disgusting republicans can get as the race to the racist bottom is getting faster. And my god, today’s American nazis love that so hard.

With the muse today talking about taking parts of Idaho it made me wonder. Given jerrymandering done today, how bad would the fighting be if states themselves were still being figured out?

“Joe Biden has been a politician in Washington for longer than I've been alive“ how do you say you are inexperienced without saying you are inexperienced.

J.D. Vance might well be the future of the GOP. He's a populist carbon copy of Trump — and smarter. Even on days when he isn't ducking bullets from crazed kids firing their dad's AR at him, Trump is an obese 78-year-old with the diet of a college frat boy. Vance could be president without running for the office.

It will be interesting to see how long President Biden “self-isolates.” If his symptoms are truly “mild”, unless he has a fever there is no reason for him to be isolated at all. I have a sneaking suspicion that his isolation is more related to the need to hide again because he’s not doing well in other areas.

The CDC’s updated Respiratory Virus Guidance (link shared below) recommends that people stay home and away from others until at least 24 hours after both their symptoms are getting better overall, and they have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).

Here’s a follow-up question: if President Biden is so concerned about preventing spread of a respiratory infection, then why did he go with his alleged “cold symptoms” to a Waffle House (no mask) after the debacle debate?

Thank you, Jamie, for your observations of Washington DC antics and actions. I wonder if you ever sleep!

I particularly love that you share your memories to remind us that some things really never change.
