During President Boris Yeltsin's 1996 re-election campaign, my colleagues and I talked a lot about what could happen if Yeltsin lost the election and refused to give up power. Never in a million years did I think an American president might refuse to concede an election loss (that frankly wasn't very close!), much less that tens of millions of people and most of a political party's establishment would support the loser again after he tried to subvert the peaceful transfer of power.
The GOP, like a broken record, is perpetrating the same misinformation that was the basis for their last campaign. Heather Cox Richardson pointed out that it resembles a wrestling match, more for entertainment than reality. She used the word kayfabe (rhymes with "Hey, babe") that I had never heard. This NY Times article published over a year ago explains.
