Jamie. How are Republicans able to retain control of Senate Committees after losing the majority?

Without getting too far into the details....the Senate needs to pass a new organizing resolution. That would set the new makeup of committees, etc. At this point, no new members have been added to any of the standing committees, so they are still organized from the last Congress. That's why the GOP is still in charge.

Until the Republicans allow the organizing resolution to be approved - they will be in charge of those committees. That resolution can be filibustered. So, at some point - if there is no deal - then Sen. Schumer would put the 2001 50/50 resolution on the floor, and try to approve it.

Theoretically, this dispute could lead to the end of the filibuster.

What's the Senate Judiciary committee's role during an impeachment trial? Would Hawley and Cruz remain on that committee during the trial?

Committees don't play any role. Cruz and Hawley would be individual jurors.

Thanks Jamie. It appears Hawley is going to put a hold and/or filibuster and/or vote no on everything. I remember Tom Coburn, to a lesser extent, doing the same thing.

I can't imagine how the anthrax attack must have scared everyone working in places like the Capitol. For most of us it was one of those "how terrible" things that we knew would never effect us.

Yes, when I heard on the police scanner about the positive test. I gathered up my stuff and went from the Senate press gallery to the House press gallery. Several of my colleagues went straight over to the Hart Building - they ended up on the drug Cipro, for months.
