In my first draft about the Jordan-Luna chat, I compared the body language to 'a bad blind date.' But I took that out, worried it would be seen as sexist in some way that I certainly did not intend. But that's what it looked like to me. They looked like a couple who were not hitting it off, so to speak.

A friend just texted to say that the photo of me with the binoculars made it on CNN earlier today. Pretty funny.

With all the years you've been covering Capitol Hill it must be interesting reporting on something you haven't encountered before. Even from the cheap seats here, it's been quite a spectacle. Thanks for the daily view from the gallery.

You are absolutely correct about using a Senate office - but still, I get their frustration.

Thank goodness for someone like Jamie Dupree who can give us an intelligent, experienced bird’s-eye view of what’s happening on the floor of the House!

I thought about this on the drive in to the Capitol the other day. This checks off another box of historic things that I have covered in my career. I guess the only two things left in the world of politics would be a brokered major party convention for President, and a presidential election which is thrown into the House of Representatives. I've now done the attempted coup and the extended election for Speaker.

I did notice that C. Scott Franklin R-FL helped contribute PAC money to George Santos.

Yes, they can vote to repeal the authorization for that money, but it will never get through the Senate. Where the GOP will have success is holding down on the actual spending for the IRS, infrastructure, etc.

Your eye-witness reporting of body language adds a special quality to your other keen instincts. As someone with progressive hearing loss I pay special attention to the subtleties of non-verbal communication. What words are spoken do not always reveal whether a message is being heard.

Thanks. I'm not at the handicapped stage but I often have people repeat something said to be sure I understand.

"This fiasco is exactly what Democrats and our global adversaries are counting on," said Rep. Scott Franklin (R-FL).

This quote blows my mind. The Republicans equate the Democrats with "our global adversaries"? So much for bipartisan anything.

I’m a little confused about something… I know this delay will not allow the gqp sham investigations (that will go nowhere) to begin, but while it will also delay garbage bills from being passed… who cares? Not one bill will be passed by the dem Senate, nor signed into law by Biden.

So does the timing (apart from the humiliation of these incompetent right wing terrorists) really matter?

And what’s with the whole “defund 87,000 IRS agents!” nonsense? To change the funding, the budget for that 100% debunked Fox News lie, doesn’t the senate also have to agree to it?

Seeing you're there and not just sitting behind a laptop working your reporting mojo was a great thing. Keep up the good work.

No worries, Rep. Bacon, the “character” of your party has been on display — on live television —- all week. It’s Must-See TV. The C-SPAN folks must be doing cartwheels.

And good for Rep.Thompson for moving the work of the Jan 6 committee over to his congressional website. I am curious about how GOP House members were allowed to take down the Jan 6 site. Don’t you have to be sworn in to be in power?

Jamie, these House reps who can't handle the requests of constituents. I get the frustration but couldn't the citizens request either be made directly to one of the senators of that state for handling or perhaps the Rep-elect could just forward over to a Senator's office for handling? Yeah, annoying but seems like there's an easy plan B out there.

Did they not know McCarthy was planning on running if they won 2 yrs ago??? I just don't get it.. You have had plenty of time to come up with names of people who everyone could agree on. Smh.. Reminds me of the repeal/replace the affordable care act. They had years! To make a plan and had nada. And here we are yet again. 🤬

Love that picture in the gallery. Whatever you do don’t put your feet against the railing. The Capital police don’t like that. 😳

Whichever network I was watching also showed the shot of MTG with Santos. They were talking comfortably. All I could think was "What is she up to now?"
