First, I will be renewing.

Second, the increase in people caught at the border….. I know REPUBS like to frame it as “more drugs seized, more people caught” as Biden’s border failure, but if his failed policies “encourage” folks to come, then why is his admin/border agents stopping them? In greater numbers?

The framing of this …..Grassley, Cruz….astounds me. They were caught. Not allowed to pass through unfettered. Border agents are doing their job really well, but let’s frame it as bad news? SMH.

It’s not surprising omicron numbers are spiking in Atlanta. We don’t seem to learn lessons here. A testing facility near me has been jammed for over a week now (folks can’t even get near the Mickey D’s next door). On Wednesday, I went to only my third movie since the pandemic began. While I sat for two and a half hours, triple vaxxed and wearing an N-95 mask, unmasked families with small children (even an infant that required a baby stroller) were all around us. Not sure what it will take at this point, aside from more needless hospitalizations and death.

On a more positive note, please pass along our best wishes to your MIL. This daily substack newsletter is the best thing sitting in my IN box each morning. Can’t wait to re-up for 2022.

I would have been reading your reports whoever they showed up. While I don’t think it was ever an issue for you in the past, it’s good to know there isn’t an editor making content choices behind your back. I really think independent reporters are the future. Here’s to a fruitful 2022!

Thanks Brian. It's great to have you on board. For those reading here who wonder about these things - as a radio reporter, I never really had an editor. That might sound odd to some people, but local radio is not flush with newsroom employees, so the scripts that I wrote for my Capitol Hill radio reports were the scripts that I wrote. Sometimes they probably could have used an editor to tweak them - but that wasn't in place. When I wrote my blog for my radio stations it was the same system. I wrote it - it was published, and that was it. (Maybe that's not the best design of a news reporting system - but that's what I had.)

For Substack, I am still my own reporter and my own editor. I do the best I can each day to bring you the stories from Capitol Hill. I remain a staff of one for this newsletter, though I do have editors who give the once-over to my columns for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
