To be clear, that term "colored people" is a condescending reflection of polite racism. As someone born and reared in the South I was nearly grown before understanding that. My grandmother (who was the only person I ever heard use the word "octoroon" in a sentence) made a distinction between White Lady and Colored Woman.

But, I get Ron's point and your point. Yeah, colored people has some unpleasant baggage with it and should be avoided but it's darn close to PoC.
