Thanks Jamie! The run-down of what's happening with the players in DC along with some context from your experience helps me to quickly stay connected with what our supposed representatives are up to. If I want to go deeper on an issue you brought to my attention, I can find plenty of op-eds elsewhere.

Jamie, your article about budget cuts and NIMBY remind me of your comments on term limits. People want term limits for everyone but their representative. I had the opportunity to use that this week. Thanks!

Hi Michelle. Thanks for your note. I'm the same ole reporter that I've always been. Today's newsletter pokes at Democrats for trying to act like they've got a deal on reconciliation when they probably don't. It notes the Republican taking credit for infrastructure money that she voted against. It properly says that Republicans would have had a hissy fit about the IRS being used against GOP enemies. It shows the GOP making fun of the Democrat who hasn't been campaigning, and also shows the crazy story about a Republican not telling his staff about his many kids. And it's got lots of other news from Capitol Hill.

In other words - it is nothing but the news from someone who has covered Capitol Hill for over 36 years. But if you want to let me know what aggravates you about today's newsletter - please do so.

The J6 hearings are changing the shape of reporting. During and immediately after the assault of the capitol that event seemed to have been a spontaneous outburst of frustration. The J6 hearings, however, are showing that day's events to be the culmination of a plan to overturn the results of the presidential election and secure a second term for Donald Trump. That's a bitter pill for lots of folks to swallow.

Unlike the Brits who manage to force even the most powerful and successful Prime Ministers to resign in the aftermath of scandalous behavior, we Americans tend to put loyalty to political parties ahead of all other considerations. I'm reminded of that line "he may be an SOB but he's *our* SOB."

Jamie and others are often the bearers of unwelcome news but when the dust settles he and others are simply doing their job. Even as we speak, some of the names now running for office are implicated in the J6 affair. I expect Jamie's reports to get worse for some folks before they get better. It's all in a day's work for him.

Both parties do dumb or shady things. But they don't usually do equally dumb things at the same time. Jamie reports what is currently happening so individual "Regular Orders" might look like he's picking on one side or the other. That's just how it goes.

Hmm, methinks we are reading different substacks ... keep up the good work Jamie!

I'm going to go with the thought that Jamie highlights the chicanery of each party equally. Some days I think he's bashing the GOP and then some days he's bashing the Dems. It all balances out.
