I believe that I'm the only Puertorrican subscriber to Regular Order. I've lived in USA far more years than in mainland Puerto Rico. I love this country. After the MSG event last night, we, hispanics, muslims, jews, asians, blacks, and Caucasians who may oppose Trump's regime, if he wins, will be considered garbage. And, he and his minions will make sure to dispose of us all as such. Stay woke!
This man has become a cartoon sadly and if he wins we will all suffer, including his own followers. For if you make any transgression ( real or not) he turns his back on you. Man in the High Tower anyone?
Usually, Jamie, I leave your newsletter feeling more grounded. Today, I leave more unsettled. It’s too easy to get caught up in soundbites and tweets, and your newsletter refocuses me. Today, I’m left reminded that last night really WAS grotesque, that there really ARE two entirely different themes & futures being evoked in these campaigns, and that the post-election-to-inauguration time really might have uncertainty and unrest.
If all of this were just about policy, but I still struggle to wrap my ahead around the vision of how America is now, the view of my fellow citizens, and the future Trump imagines. I just don’t know how to reconcile that and I doubt I ever will.
It wasn’t just Bad Bunny, according to Heather Cox Richardson:
Puerto Rican singer and actor Ricky Martin shared a clip from Hinchcliffe’s set with his 16 million followers. His caption read: “This is what they think of us.” Singer and actress Jennifer Lopez, who has 250 million Instagram followers, posted Harris’s plan. Later, singer-songwriter and actress Ariana Grande posted that she had voted for Harris. Grande has 376 million followers on Instagram. Singer Luis Fonsi, who has 16 million followers, also called out the “constant hate.”
The Puerto Rico comment was… ON THE TELEPROMPTER. This nazi campaign knew he’d say it, and he did.
If there are any cultists here, would you care to tell us why you’re still voting for this obviously hateful, racist, disgusting person?
I was in a hotel room watching the Sunday night NYC rally live. JFC. Aside from the intentional optics and feeding Trump's ego (MSG), I'm not sure why a week out, a rationally thinking candidate would waste precious time in a state he's never going to win. And the speakers literally begged for the media to roll images from the comparative 1939 Nazi MSG rally.
You don't organize a rally like that unless you're through with trying to convince independent/swing voters. Plus, as Mr. Dupree points out, it gives the Harris campaign LOTS of video for final TV ads. Trump clearly thinks he has this in the bag.
Same. There’s no detectable strategy. He’s under the impression that MSG rally played brilliantly across the board, apparently even with the black and brown people he’s been courting. Then again, nothing has dinged him in the polls so …
I predict this will be a blowout election. I say that all the early voters were extremely passionate about getting their candidate elected, and there will be over 325 electoral votes.
I just don’t know if there are more decent people than pure, utter racist filth. I used to know it, but when ANYONE defends the wanna be hitler and his violent Nazis that make up his inner core, it makes me wonder.
I've been so worried about our country my husband last night asked me what was wrong. I couldn't hide it. I've seriously been thinking that if Trump wins, I'll join a peaceful protest against whatever he does that's wrong, and go to jail and maybe get beaten up for it. My kids are grown, so no one needs me at home. But I'm afraid. I hope I don't have to make this decision.
"We should throw Jack Smith out with the mentally deranged people," If you have ever been accused of having “TDS” you might want to have your passport ready and a place in a friendly foreign country come January 20th if TFG wins.
Trump can't fired Smith. He doesn't work for him. The attorney General would have to fire him. Who would actually make Smith leave the country if Trump wanted him gone? That person would be com.itting a crime. I'm not sure trying to make a citizen leave the country falls under presidential acts.
You're under the mistaken impression the old guardrails and norms would be in place during a second Trump administration, Richard. They wouldn't. The SCOTUS ruling gives him WIDE berth. The writing on the wall is pretty damn big at this point. How are you missing this?
He’s the typical cultist, fueled by ignorance and hate. He’s doing a service to us all, as we can see how these addled brains click into their automatic defense and support.
It is exactly like a little toady trying to protect the bully that once in a while stops kicking him in the nuts, and promises that he’ll share in the ill gotten gains one day.
But they never will, they’ll just keep scratching in the dirt and hating everyone who wronged them, as their lives unravel and they sink into the mud.
The president doesn't actually do anything. Other people do it for him. They don't have immunity. It will go to the courts to decide what acts the the president has immunity. You are assuming Trump wins. Don't you think harris can get the same votes as Biden?
That's true. But the heads of the various agencies send at the pleasure of the president, and he can replace them. He did in his first term. Why wouldn't he do it in a second term?
According to SCOTUS as long as he orders a person acting in official capacity to do it he is insulated. The person doing the act might not be, but Trump could just pardon them. Do you really think that Trump won’t hire an Attorney General that will do whatever he wants?
Trump could order anyone in the executive branch to do anything, and replace them if they refused, and that's okay according to SCOTUS. So yes, any president would have the power to expel anyone they wanted, and face zero consequences unless the Senate was willing to remove them. That terrifies me. I don't want ANY president, including Harris, to have that kind of power. I wouldn't have voted for her if I thought she would do such a thing, but you never know what people will do with so much power until they have it. (Unless they tell you what they'd do, like Trump just did.)
I might break the law by peacefully staying at a protest until they have to move me, just as the civil rights protesters did. I would accept the legal consequences, just as they did. I would not commit violence.
Trump did want the insurrectionists to be violent. I know he said "peacefully" in his speech, but if he had meant that, he would have asked them to stop right after the violence started. They knew what he wanted, and they did it for him.
I get your frustration. I do. I'm scared to death if what Trump would do to this country. But please don't call names. It only makes us look like those speakers at MSG last night.
I’m astounded… you’re willing to protest and be beaten and jailed, but you draw the line at not being polite to someone who would defend and vote for a literal nazi.
Listen, the reason these monsters are even in a position of power is because democrats are too god damn polite around filth. To call out racists, idiots and trolls as racists, idiots and trolls isn’t wrong, it’s mandatory.
I have no problem calling out statements or policies or beliefs or actions as despicable. But I don't think calling people names is helpful, and I think there is good in everyone. (Minus a few sociopaths, perhaps.) I know people who support Trump who are still kind to pretty much everyone. I don't understand how they can separate their vote from their personal morality. But the fact is that they do. And reality has never cared one bit whether I understood it or not.
I am terrified right now. I am desperately hoping that the nastiness that was spewed at MSG will motivate enough votes to keep Trump out of the White House. I even get really mad at people who support Trump despite all the evidence. It's like talking to a brick wall, and their steadfast loyalty is infuriating! But I just don't think it helps to call them names. I think it hurts the cause of future unity quite a lot. I try to do things that will help, or at least not do things that will hurt. I don't always succeed, but I try.
You’re wrong. The good in people is completely outweighed by the bad. If you think that a trumper being “kind to pretty much everyone” makes it ok that they vote for him and the gop filth he helps get elected to Congress, you’re wrong.
They show you what they know you need to see, so they can abuse you at the ballot box. But you won’t be abused. Because while you might not be Puerto Rican, or any kind of Latino, or black, or gay, or Jewish or sick or poor or elderly… eventually you’ll be on the list.
And those voters are just as evil as those monsters they elect, maybe even worse because all they get out of it is the freedom to be racist while his nazi high command gets rich.
Do you not know how hitler happened? Can you not see it happening right now? Do you think that nazis being kind to their own kind makes it ok to cheer a ghoul saying that Puerto Ricans are garbage? Because nazis WERE kind to their own. Until they weren’t.
Those racists hate people for who they are, decent people hate those literal psychopaths for who they hate.
To think there will EVER be unity is to be a Pollyanna… as a Jew I won’t ever be civil to someone who voted for a piece of crap that admires hitler, and they have already never been civil to me. Not in what they post, but for who they want to lead.
These assholes want to deport millions of humans, don’t you know what that looks like?
Papers, please.
Every single Latino or Muslim looking person in America will be living in fear. Neighbors will turn in neighbors. Legal Americans will be deported illegally. Dissent will be met with military force. Lying, cheating, stealing, scaring people to win will have been judged ok.
Civil? You would want to be civil to the real garbage? That’s like being civil to a man who raped your daughter, who killed your family, who stole your life savings.
The fact that these people are good in other aspects of their lives does not make it okay that they're voting for a Hitler wannabe. But from what I've seen, calling them names just makes them more entrenched, makes them love Trump more, because they use the name-calling to identify more strongly with him as he claims the legitimate criminal investigations he faces are unjust persecution. But reducing human beings to "less than" is Trump's game, not mine. It's not what is right for my soul. And I do not believe it will help my country, either.
As a straight white, middle-aged, middle-class cis woman of Christian background, I am what he believes America should look like. But I would rather throw my lot in with you and the other threatened groups than to do nothing while he destroys my country and my fellow Americans. That's why I would be willing to protest peacefully and accept a prison sentence. Dr. King and his followers did that. Dr. King is a good role model. I remember from my training that many Jews also joined the Civil Rights Movement.
Dr. King also told his followers, "I will not teach you to hate." And I will do my best to follow that as well.
If I insulted you I am so sorry. Otherwise I have no idea why you attacked me. I still believe in the constitution. I don't see why Harris won't get the same votes as Biden. Calling names tends to put you in the same spoiled brat category as Trump. Trump may have immunity but anybody he gives direction to must obey the law. A general following an illegal command is liable for the crime. All of his staff will fall in the same category.
It's true that Trump would have to find, for example, a new head of Homeland Security who would be willing to deport Smith. But look at all the people who have done illegal things for Trump so far. Hundreds in jail for Jan. 6. Even lawyers, who knew the laws, being convicted of crimes or turning state's evidence to stay out of jail. Do you really think he could not find anyone willing to deport Smith?
I believe in our Constitution as well. But I am beginning to see how a lot of its success so far has depended on people being willing to put the spirit of our republic over their own power. Like Gore when SCOTUS decided he had lost the election. He accepted it and went home. But Trump fomented insurrection. (Yes, he said once that they should be peaceful, but if he meant that, he would have asked them to stop as soon as it got violent.) Our Constitution cannot hold if we don't all put its survival above our own desires.
Don’t put words in my mouth, magat. I only described you, I described the garbage you’re defending. You don’t understand what is insulting and what isn’t, and I’m done with you.
Spew your shit all you want, you’re just proving me correct.
"Who would stop him?" Is a great question.
This "secret" feels ominous. Ugh.
No one will stop him if he wins. This is how it happens. Fear, greed, ignorance, hate.
I believe that I'm the only Puertorrican subscriber to Regular Order. I've lived in USA far more years than in mainland Puerto Rico. I love this country. I've been wondering about Trump's behavior lately. I'm torn between two possibilities.
1. He doesn't really want to win.
2. He's doing all this as a flex to show how loyal his MAGAs are.
Same. There’s no detectable strategy. He’s under the impression that MSG rally played brilliantly across the board, apparently even with the black and brown people he’s been courting. Then again, nothing has dinged him in the polls so …
I have thought the same! Echoes of How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days.
I predict this will be a blowout election. I say that all the early voters were extremely passionate about getting their candidate elected, and there will be over 325 electoral votes.

Great newsletter, Jamie. Thanks for the kicker at the end (Rap Sheet)!

And is he really talking only about "TDS," or is he talking about schizophrenics and other mentally ill people as well?
“But that's being too cute by half.”
You spelled, “yet another racist piece of crap magat lied” wrong.
Trump can't fired Smith. He doesn't work for him. The attorney General would have to fire him. Who would actually make Smith leave the country if Trump wanted him gone? That person would be com.itting a crime. I'm not sure trying to make a citizen leave the country falls under presidential acts.
