You're right. I don't think it's a conspiracy, but Trump's relentless bullshit has been so much a part of the landscape that they and we have come to expect and overlook it. Limbaugh said years ago to take him seriously but not literally, and since then even the media and nearly everybody else has let him get away with it.
His foolishness is like swarms of gnats in hot weather or bird droppings on your car parked too long out of the garage. And reporters no longer bother to mention it.
Trump has collected together “the desperate and the discontented.”(see last sentence below)
From Common Sense:
“A government of our own is our natural right: And when a man seriously reflects on the precariousness of human affairs, he will become convinced, that it is infinitely wiser and safer, to form a constitution of our own in a cool deliberate manner, while we have it in our power, than to trust such an interesting event to time and chance. If we omit it now, some [dictator] may hereafter arise, who laying hold of popular disquietudes, may collect together the desperate and the discontented, and by assuming to themselves the powers of government, may sweep away the liberties of the continent like a deluge.”
On the off chance that Biden bows out AND Democrats win, I'm calling it now. Election fraud based on the bait and switch will be the narrative. Different ingredients but same flavor.
As Yogi and others have said, it's hard to make predictions, especially about the future, but you make a good point. A toxic narrative which started before J6 (and contributed to that mess) has poisoned the political bloodstream worse than any virus. Fraud suspicions and worse have become pro-forma for elections and I expect that and more to continue for the rest of our lifetime.
Question concerning presidential immunity for official acts- wouldn't that de facto prevent any executive party member impeachment? As Jamie eluded to in an earlier newsletter, Watergate could theoretically be considered an official act; quid pro quo with Trump and Ukraine for weapons would be an official act of the executive branch; and theoretically *any* action can be covered as an official act of the president (until more cases go to the SC to define what "official actions" are).
I guess/assume that a Congress could bring articles of impeachment up but would they go anywhere or be waved off?
Thank you for your continued reporting, balanced commentary, and insightful perspectives.
I agree. Jamie is as dependable as a clock. These newsletters are as much a part of my day as the sunrise.
I said it yesterday, and I will repeat it today, the media is willfully giving Trump the presidency.

Happy 4th.
Here is to many more.

Picture the certification. The script writes itself. Sigh.
