The vote for Speaker is done by alphabetical roll call. It is conceivable that the House could change its rules for this one time - but unlikely.

The fact that you regularly embrace your ‘nerdiness ’ and provide us readers with a fairly succinct and understandable translation of obscure and little known (outside the Beltway) procedural and political maneuvering is alone, worth the price of admission. Hopefully you take a full vacation sometime in 2023 - you could aggregate and republish an entire Regular Order on past ‘Nerd Notes’ on it’s own. Sort of a ‘best of’ as you well know broadcaster’s often do.

And I feel good going into January knowing that you’re diligently maintaining that ‘McCarthy votes’ spreadsheet. 😎

Well-said and I agree. Keep up the good work but do take time to take care of yourself.

That 700-page of earmarks is a fascinating document. A quick search reveals that our own two Senators make the list about thirty times each (sharing about half a dozen), racking up several millions in bacon for GA.

William Walker , who was head of the DC National Guard said he knew something was up because of the gatheirngs in Nov and Dec. heading into Jan 6th

Why didnt they listen to him? He is/was an intelligence officer.

Mr. Dupree, I lost track of the fate of the Electoral Count Act. Did it successfully get passed tacked onto the omnibus bill and is it now law?

I read somewhere that some House members are calling for the Speaker vote to be a secret ballot. Is that permitted? I want to know how everyone votes.
