I guess this means Boebert needs to sell her house and move? 🤣

Thank you for all your work, Jamie, in 2023. Yes, you've had a wild and crazy ride and we appreciate you clear concise writing. You helped us through these nutty times. You're my second reading every morning (after Heather Cox Richardson.) You bring some incredible observations that only a seasoned veteran from Washington can bring us. Here's to you and 2024! Let's all hope we all make it through this likely iNsAne year in one piece.

The Boebert case is a good one to use about qualifications for the U.S. House. You don't have to live in the district where you are elected. It's a good idea obviously - but not required. The Constitution only sets out 3 requirements - you must be at least 25 years old, 7 years a citizen of the US, and an inhabitant of the state where you are getting elected. And the states cannot add any restrictions to those three.

The White House should inform Rep. Jim Jordan they will be happy to comply with his request -- just as soon as he complies with the Jan. 6 committee subpoena he blatantly chose to ignore.

Thanks for the great end of year wrap up, Mr. Dupree. As we head into what will likely be an unprecedented chaotic year in politics, I’m grateful we have this daily newsletter to help us make sense of things. Happy New Year!

I am still amazed at how badly the GOP has conducted these investigations. Making unfounded accusations on TV is pretty easy compared to nailing down the evidence.

My wish for 2024 is for Democracy to prevail. Happy New Year everyone!

I think big reforms are needed in the federal government. I just wish people in both parties would take that seriously and not pretend that everything is just a-okay.

I strain to listen any time immigration is mentioned, hoping to hear any reference to "comprehensive immigration reform."

There will not be any comprehensive immigration reform anytime soon.

Jamie, any plans to write a book about your 30+ years covering Congress?

Oh Denise, now you're making me feel guilty. I have over 300 pages written about my family's time on Capitol Hill. But taking it from something on my thumb drive to an actual book has proven to be a bit much for me. I need more discipline. Or I need an extra 24 hours in every day.

Happy New Year Jamie! 🎉 (and everyone here who subscribes & supports Jamie’s newsletter!🥳) Hoping 2024 will be a year of interesting but sane headlines (Example: Trump Throws in the Towel and Agrees to Testify Against All His Flying Monkeys; Gaetz Arrested; Jordan Arrested; Giuliani Arrested; MTG Arrested; Trump Plea Deal Includes No Social Media, No Rallies, & Public Apology of his Grift; etc.) 🤨

I also want sane headlines. Unfortunately, I don't think 2024 is going to be sane.

Why do the States run primaries for just two political parties? Shouldn't they run all of them or none of them?

Having said that, I believe States are completely within their rights to keep someone off the ballot for the general election; for legal reasons. In the case of Trump and the insurrection clause, I'm not sure it applies without a conviction.

Oh, friends and I were talking about this and had a question. If he were to be kept off the ballot, what would happen if people wrote his name in anyway? I think those votes would not count since he would have been determined to be ineligible.

Most states help with just the two major parties. But there are some states which actively support primaries for a host of smaller parties. Just look at New York and the ballot lines for the Conservative Party and the Working Families Party.

Cool. As long as doing so is an option for all the parties involved in the election cycle. The municipalities can use the time to put other things on the ballot, too. I can only think of one time that being a registered independent meant there were no questions for me.

I thought Boebert’s race was close because she was a strongly divisive person. Wouldn’t Republicans have a much better chance in CO-03 if they nominate some generic candidate? Thinking of Steve King having a close race against JD Scholten and Feenstra beating Scholten by 20+ points.

You are correct. But the amount of $ that Fritsch has can't be ignored

Thanks Jamie for great reporting and for your bonus issues of Regular Order when events dictated. You are the gold standard of journalism! I tried again to buy you a cup of coffee and the mechanism didn’t work. Sorry, I’ll try again in January. Happy New Year to you and your family!
