How long are the moderate Repubs going to take it? I keep waiting for the Joseph McCarthy ending (You've done enough. Have you no sense of decency, Sir? At long last, have you no sense of decency?). There are enough moderates who can choose someone for Speaker, go to the Democrats, and make a deal. Do it!

In North Carolina, there are:

2,637,581 or 36% Unaffiliated voters

2,495,097 or 34% Democrats

2,221,179 or 30% Republicans

But because the gop gerrymandered its way to a Republican majority in the NC House & Senate, they are pushing a split of 11 to 3 in representation, favoring republicans.

Any proud right wingers out there who want to defend this?

As much as I don’t like gerrymandering I also don’t think that either party has the moral high ground. Growing up in Georgia the Democrats did the samething after the 2000 census. Then the Republicans finally got their act together and voted out the Democrats. They redrew the lines more sensibly in 2002. Then obviously took it further the last couple of times.

Jeff Jackson isn’t my rep, but I really appreciate him in Congress and hope he stays.

"Expanding powers for a temporary Speaker is a dangerous precedent," said Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN).

Yeah, for starters, something might actually get accomplished by the House GOP.

Seen on the internet’s:

“And what is @Jim_Jordan doing while his @HouseGOP colleagues and their families are being harassed and threatened for not voting for him? The same thing he did for those young OSU wrestlers he was coaching when they were being abused! He's standing around and doing nothing.”

Well, except for his brave, “wait. Stop. Don’t” tweet.

Face it, republicans, these violent threats are coming from Inmate #PO1135809’s violent fan base. Pretty much exactly how hitler gained power through threats and intimidation, after his first coup attempt where he got a slap on the wrist.

I just did a web search for "Threats to family members a problem for elected representatives?"

Google returned a list of links going back to last year, with the first link from AP noting...

“Bullying don’t work,” said Rep. Don Bacon, a Republican centrist who has led the opposition to Jordan’s nomination. Still, Bacon said the harassing text messages and phone calls have taken a toll. His wife slept with a loaded gun near her bedside one night. Other Republicans said their families have been threatened. And every lawmaker who voted against Jordan has received a barrage of angry phone calls and messages."

I don't have any suggestions on how to correct this but it's a trend that is clearly getting worse. In some ways it's the bullying tactic like Russia uses to whip Ukraine into compliance as well as the Israeli approach to dealing with Palestinians living among and around them.
