Regardless of presidential pardons Jamie's meticulous documentation of the J6 perpetrators are ample testimony to the historic lawbreaking that occurred that day. I cannot imagine how Trump's wholesale pardons will survive as the years go by, but those of us who have followed the aftermath in these newsletters will always know how truly bizarre his gestures were.
A day will come, Jamie, when your work will be rich material for a historic documentary about the political circus which is about to unfold.
Again Jamie, thanks for the hard work and giving us a view from within, told with your years of experience. My subscription to your Regular Order is the best way I know to get an honest account--hard to come by in this age.
There were many things yesterday that got me "hot under the collar." But one of the biggest was the cancellation of flights for Afghan refugees. During the wars, we promised immigration opportunities for those who helped our troops. In the ensuing time, we have made it ridiculously difficult for that to happen. Just one more time...
I think of all those my husband dealt with on his deployments, most specifically his translators/guides, and wonder where they are and hope they are safe.
What happened to the folks that attacked police should not be pardoned? Ladies once he is done with immigration and the LGBT community we are next. I had hoped that possibly he would not be as extreme but nope right out the gate. And did I see that he sent out a call for president funds? WTH?
Every four years a President is sworn in that just makes everything worse for America. Both R's and D's are awful and only act in their own interests, not that of our country or its citizens (except the oligarchs of course).
The pardons by Biden and Trump are reprehensible. This age old practice of Presidential pardons needs to end as it is becoming increasingly more abused than ever before.
Neither party will ever do anything to actually address immigration other than make decisions that are bad for Americans and potential immigrants. Politicians want to keep this hot button in their campaign playbooks.
I came across this photo from the 1889 inauguration of Benjamin Harrison yesterday. Pretty cool to see the setup from so long ago! I thought people here might enjoy seeing it.
A little historical reference: Trump negotiated with the Taliban & they released the 5,000+ captives. The Republicans blamed Biden for the havoc of the withdrawal when those released were the:
Tip of the Spear
That caused that chaos
Yesterday’s Pardons released those who did Trumps bidding 4 years ago.
If trouble brews in these United States
Trump will call out his Insurrectionist ( who know they will be protected & pardon)
Four years of darkness are ahead, and I'm not convinced will end in 4 years. I would like to ask your subscribers, Jamie, if any think that these elections were completely stolen. Trump seems to imply that in fact that was case.
That’s cruel. You’re just confuse those with TDS into thinking that’s a real question. I see you’re into the British mysteries, too. 👍 Other than a murder (to solve), they’re so free of violence and profane behavior.
Ah, the outrage of right wingers for Biden trying to protect innocent people from an openly vindictive and criminal sack of shit, while cheering those violent cop beating traitors.
And exploding in orgasm for a nazi salute from the real president.
President Ford was asked frequently why he pardoned Nixon. He would removed a copy of a presidential pardon. One requirement of accepting the pardon is admitting guilt to what you are pardoned. If his family accepts the pardon, they are admitting guilt.
While I disagree with the blanket pardon for the J6, and two wrongs do not make a right, I am old enough remember Clinton pardons of the Weather Underground crew, one of whom became an adjunct professor at Northwestern University. I did not see the media outrage at the time. That said, Trump should have listened to Vance on this one.
I'm leaving this comment on January 22 (the morning after Jamie's post) because I'm still catching up on yesterday's events and don't want to mess up this morning's comments at today's post.
I didn't get to Heather Cox Richardson's informal Politics Chat (Tuesdays at 4PM) until late last night and as I finished listening I decided to post the link here for this group to hear.
She talks for over an hour (which none of us can spare these days) so don't try to listen to the whole thing. But the opening half-hour is a history lesson not to be missed.
Enough said.
I'm now about to get to this morning's Regular Order.

The right wing will memory hole the J6 insurrection, and will outlaw any history book that describes it as anything but pure love.

an absolutely terrible day - again - for this country

So after an order to halt all new Federal Regulations he ordered 6 new regulations. Amazing.
Filth is impervious to hypocrisy, they simply don’t care.

Interesting. Thanks for the link. If that were today everyone would be wearing ponchos. I’ve never seen so many umbrellas!

Your dementia President pardoned a cop killer. Cry more. https://x.com/fbiagentsassoc/status/1881442954352447560?s=46&t=I-_PXceSoaBeZoUJUEgsvQ
Which dementia president, the 78 year old or the 82 year old??

Bad call by Trump but none the less amazing how selective the memory or the media / left is

Find something good and hold fast to it.
